Character Name: Sasha Laila Lux
Age/School Year: 17/7th Year
Birthday: June 17th
House Preference: Slytherin
Appearance:
Sasha stands at 5’2” with a slim build. She has long dark brown hair, which is often dyed different colors that range from red to purple, though she sometimes settles for just highlights. She has fair skin and chestnut brown eyes. Her style of clothing is ever-changing, as she likes to keep up with current muggle fashions.Personality:
An outspoken, determined individualist who has flair to back up her confident attitude, Sasha has that intangible quality that draws people in. She’s the school’s bad ass – the girl that doesn’t listen to what she’s meant to do and breaks all the rules. By the way she talks, one might think she’s a naturally unkind person, but she’s not. If you try to be mean to her or her friends, however, expect hell for the rest of your years at Hogwarts. Really, there’s only one word to describe Sasha. And that’s unique. She wears the oddest clothes, her nails are always a different color with some design on them and she has confidence while doing it.Character History:
Penelope “Penny” McQuillen was born to two perfectly normal muggle parents in the perfectly normal town of Brentwood, Essex, England. Growing up, she had two brothers until one of them died in a diving accident. It was a hard experience for all of the family, though it hit her dad the hardest. He spiraled, going from a raging man to and alcoholic, which killed him eventually. All of this occurred while Penny was still at Hogwarts. The consul of her friends and her boyfriend, Jude Bell, helped her through those trying times in her life.
Jude Bell was, like Penny, born to two muggle parents, though he grew up on the streets of London, with a drug addict for a mother and a father – he was chasing his dream of being a rock musician – that visited once every three months. When his Hogwarts letter arrived, Jude could not have been happier to escape to a world of magic, leaving behind his rotten life. He found a home for himself in the castle and a great group of friends. In his fifth year, he began dating Penny, and was there for her when her family life began falling apart.
Penny discovered she was pregnant just a month after they both graduated. They knew, with full certainty, that they did not have the ability to raise a child properly without help. It was out of the question for Jude's parents to help them look after their future child, but Penny's mother was more than happy to invite the couple into her home to live with her. Unfortunately, her mother died when Penny was five months pregnant and Penny's remaining brother sold the house behind her back, forcing Penny and Jude to mostly live out of Jude's car for the last months of her pregnancy. Though Jude found a job, he was not able to save up enough wages to buy them an apartment between paying for gas, the car bill, and other expenses.
Though Jude had attempted to drive Penny to a hospital so that she could have their baby delivered by a gynecologist, they were unable to make it in time before she went into labor. And so Penny gave birth to a baby girl in the backseat of Jude's Vauxhall Corsa as he tried very hard not to empty his stomach on the side of the road. They named her Sasha Laila Bell and kept her for a week and a half while they made the hard decision to take her to Blake's Little Witches Orphanage in the hopes that she would have a more well-off set of parents to care for her.
As far as Sasha knows, she was born on June 17th in the backseat of a Vauxhall Corsa to a muggle-born witch and a muggle-born wizard, both whom were seventeen at the time of her birth. With no one to turn to for help with raising the baby, the young couple took their daughter to Blake’s Little Witches Orphanage. The orphanage has been Sasha’s home since she was just a week and a half old. Growing up, she initially had no idea who her parents were, or any idea as to why they had left her at the orphanage. It is only recently, over the last summer break, that she has discovered their names after breaking into the Matron’s office with her best friend, Audrey, to steal her file.
Several times couples came to the orphanage to adopt. She remembers them smiling at her when she was very little and commenting on what a “pretty little girl” she was, none of them adopted her. Too rambunctious, they said when she was a toddler; too old, they said once she’d reached the age of eight. It didn’t bother her that no one wanted to adopt her, not when she had her best friend who might as well have been her sister at the orphanage with her. She’d even gone out of her way not to be adopted at times, by either loudly declaring that if she was adopted the couple would have to adopt her sister, Audrey, as well or by acting far too wild for even the kindest of people to handle.
Her first experience with accidental magic came when she was just seven years of age. It was late at night when a storm rolled through. Lightning rose from the ground and thunder boomed in the sky above. She’d never liked storms. They frightened her. And unfortunately, the storm that night had been bad enough to put the electricity out. Alarmed and fearful, she had sat in her bed wishing for a light when suddenly the lamp on her bedside table flared to life. It was brief, a short-lived light, but it had removed her fear as she ran through the hallways shouting about how she’d performed magic while the lightning continued to crackle and the thunder roared.

Noelle tip-toed down the dimly lit hallway, aware that her rubber bottom shoes were liable to squeak against the slippery floor at any moment. Her green robes were bunched up in the palms of her hands, hanging just below her knees so that they did not touch the floor. Even a small wisp of sound might alert her Head, who’d be sure to scold her once again for not being where she was supposed to be. It was not her fault, she had often complained. There was just something about staying in one position for so long that bored her to tears. Perhaps it was due to all the moving about her family had done as a child, she often thought. And they’d just moved again, according to her dad’s most recent letter, to Salem, Massachusetts. Athena was going to start school at Salem’s Witches Institute soon, though Brielle chose to remain at Hogwarts.
A creak from a nearby doorway alarmed her and she nearly lost her composure, letting her robes slip down her calf, nearly falling with a loud swish below her ankles. Hiding in a shadowy corner of the hallway, she watched a patient tumble onto the floor from one of the wards. Naturally, she wanted to go and help the patient, but it would blow her cover if she did and she was admittedly too selfish at the moment to break it for anything bar death or sociopathic murderers running down the hallway. The patient picked himself up – she was sure it was a male from the gruff ‘Bloody Hell’ the patient had just spoken – dusted off his gown and headed towards the reception area. What he was hoping to find there, she did not know.
With the obstacle gone, she came away from the corner and slipped through the still slightly ajar double-door entrance into the ward the patient had just come from. It was dark inside, much darker than in the hallway. There was an eerie silence filled only with the snores and breathing of patients. Her eyes traveled the right side of the ward, searching for the pink curtain adorned with prints of dancing ballerinas and faces with flowers bending over in greeting. As quietly as possible, and by that she meant moving slower than a turtle, her head snapping this way and that at every little sigh of the old wood that had built St. Mungos, she traveled towards the pink curtains.
She peeled back the curtain. One of the ballerinas whose face her hand was covering gave a little indignant cry she had to shush. Below her laid a young dirty blonde-haired girl, her small chest rising and falling with each breath, as it should. She smiled, her hand reaching into the small bag she’d strapped around her shoulder – she let her robes fall around her gently. This little girl had first been on her level, just a week ago, recovering from an accidental mishap from a spell her mother performed. Her mother had been so worried, but the girl was strong throughout the whole process, never frowning or whining about having to lie in a bed all day. It was with a satisfied look that Noelle placed a simple brown bear wearing a blue bow beside her. She, Noelle, had enchanted the bear to dance and give hugs, though she’d had to contact her Transfiguration Professor for directions to make sure she got it right.
As she was leaving the ward, feeling accomplished and joyful, she even had a little skip in her step now, a shrill voice called from somewhere in the dark shadows to the left, “Noelle Lovelace! I might have known. How many times does this make?” It was then that she knew she cursed the little skip in her step she’d developed.
