Faith had everything just right, as she almost always did. She was a perfectionist when it came to entertaining guests, though she wasn’t so rigid that she couldn’t have a good time. The drinks were all set, the music on a loud, but tasteful setting, and the furniture set aside to leave plenty of room for dancing. Her parents were out of town for two more days, along with her younger brother, so she had no worries that they would be able to clean up after themselves with ample time to spare. Her mother would be upset if they were found out, but her father...now he was quite unpredictable. It was better if they just never knew about the rebellious partying and that was that.
She was fixing up her makeup one last time, as Joel had promised her he would make an appearance before the night was over. Her boyfriend of two months wasn’t always reliable when it came to showing up to things that were important to her, but she at least hoped to get in a dance or two with him. Her relationship with him was very unconventional, but she was invested in it. And he was extremely hot. Faith had always been drawn to the “bad boy” archetype, even though she was an intelligent young woman and she should have known better. Those boys just seemed to know what they were doing in more than one aspect of life. And though he was hardly a gentleman, she couldn’t find the strength within her to pull away from him. Faith was almost addicted to commitment. She didn’t believe in herself enough to be alone.
One last glance in the mirror and she pressed her lips together to even her lipstick, before heading out to find her brother. She got along with Blake, for the most part, but she still needed to make sure he would not embarrass her tonight. No matter how cool he thought he was, he was forever and always her brother. She had been the object of much humiliation from him over the years, intended or not. When she found him, she stopped in the doorway and leaned against it, standing with one hand on her hip.
“We’re agreed this is to be a nice evening, correct? And you stay with your crowd of heathens, while I stay with my more civilized friends. I don’t want to have to kick your arse if you make a fool out of me. And don’t think I can’t,” she said with a hint of a smile playing at her lips.
